the rain, cooking dinner and me

                                                                                 Rainfall

It began to rain after my last facebook post. Love it! A perfect late spring weekend afternoon.  After posting I meandered out into the kitchen and began cheffing up scalloped potatoes melting the butter and flour first, then added milk, seasoning and added in grated mozzarella, Colby, jack cheeses. Poured onto the potatoes and added grated cheddar and parmesan cheeses, sprinkled some red chili flakes on top for color and placed in oven.

Then it was onto a very large chicken breast. I had originally planned on a French Provence-flavored chicken of some sort but nixed that. Instead, I opted for cutting the chicken into wok type pieces, and decided to fry them like my maternal grandmother did with her Southern fried chicken. Dipped them in half n half, dredged in a myriad seasoned flour mixture and fried in the wok. To that I add a quarter cup of port wine and more half a half. Removed from heat, later added this a large platter of stuffing and mixing together. Then sautéed corn in butter with juice of one lime. The potatoes are now cooling and dinner is waiting to be served when Jeff arrives.

I was able to add a last coat of paint to the interior of the bookcase-- completing that portion of the project. I feel like I've accomplished something today and that's a good thing (shades of Martha Stewart).
